What is the best time to start the Char Dham Yatra?
The Char Dham Yatra opens annually around late April or early May (Akshaya Tritiya) and remains accessible until October or November. May to June and September to October are considered ideal as the weather is pleasant. Traveling during July and August is generally avoided due to heavy monsoon rains and landslips in the Kumaon/Garhwal hills.
Is physical fitness required for Kedarnath trek?
Yes, the Kedarnath trek from Gaurikund is approximately 16-18 km long and reaches an altitude of 11,755 feet. It is physically demanding. We recommend cardio exercises starting 4 weeks before the trip. Mules, ponies, dolis (palanquins), and helicopter services are available for seniors or those with health conditions.
How do we register for the Char Dham Yatra?
Biometric registration is mandatory for all pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra. It can be completed online on the official Uttarakhand Tourism website or offline at designated counters in Haridwar and Rishikesh. Our local team coordinates the registration process for all booked guests.
What clothing should I pack for the yatra?
Pack layers of clothing. While Haridwar and Rishikesh can be warm, high-altitude destinations like Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri get cold, especially in the evenings. Carry thermal innerwear, a heavy woollen jacket, windproof shell, gloves, woollen socks, and comfortable trekking shoes.
Are medical facilities available along the route?
Basic government medical posts and first-aid camps are set up along the trekking routes and main dham sites. Badrinath and Kedarnath have local clinics. However, due to the remote terrain, we advise carrying your personal prescription medications and basic altitude sickness kits.
Is local vegetarian food easily available?
Yes. Due to the religious significance of the routes, onion and garlic-free pure vegetarian food is easily available at all local eateries (dhabas) and hotels. Alcohol and non-vegetarian food are strictly prohibited in the Char Dham region.
